Multi-Level Marketing - Pyramid to Fear or Brilliant Business Model?

Multi-level Marketing is a business model developed and operating in the United States and over 100 Countries throughout the world with great success.

The business model developed on a product direct to consumer concept solved man issues for companies that wanted to minimize their advertising dollars while rewarding their associates for taking proactive action to sell the products and promote the business to broaden the sales force.

Over the years this business model has been highly successful, sometimes abused. often argued and always controversial. Most of the controversy has stemmed from compensation plans that were developed by some companies that highly rewarded people for sponsoring people or encouraged product loading of their associates in order to obtain certain advancement in the established sales levels. As a result, scrutiny has followed the industry for years as individuals and watch dog groups alike take a close look at how companies in the industry are structured for product movement and compensation.

The term "pyramid scheme" has been the main slang term used for the industry in a broad sense instead of the specific offenders that were indeed built as pyramid schemes to defraud the public which certainly has happened over the last 40 years in the industry.

Ironically, the structure of the field representatives compensation often reflect how most conventional corporations are structured in a top down fashion though there are many variations of compensation plans used in the industry. From a matrix, to a unilevel, to a binary or stairstep break away...compensation plans vary greatly from company to company.

Are their companies that are "scams" in the industry? Let's say there are companies that have compensation or operational issues that may not follow the letter of the law for the industry. Possibly intentionally or by accident.

Two of the more obvious warning signs would be

1) A company that pays a sponsoring bonus with no product movement to justify the dollars payed.

2) A company that has all of it's product sales through the associates and none or very little to the general public.

If you are looking at or are part of a company that has one or both of these characteristics, it's a flaw that in the long term can become a problem.

All of this being said, direct selling or Network Marketing can be a highly effective means of getting a product to market or expanding a distributor base and literally millions of people worldwide participate in these companies mostly as independent contractors.

The advertising savings of network marketing companies can often lead to more affordable products or more research and development for companies allowing innovative products and solutions to be brought to market.

Ideally, if you're reviewing this type of opportunity your company should have a product or service that is absolutely stand alone and has a powerful WOW factor or Unique Selling Proposition that makes it easier to talk to people about and grow your business.

Additionally, having a product or service that ideally saves your customers money in this economy is something that will turn a lot of heads and will allow more regular people to succeed in presenting their business to the public.

If you have a product that costs a lot of money and doesn't immediately make sense to a broad market of people, you're going to have a much harder time successfully presenting and growing your business. Not all network marketing opportunities are therefore created equal.

Before you get involved in a MLM network marketing business, don't get caught up in the hype and excitement. Let the dust settle and be realistic with yourself and ask yourself if you can indeed see yourself presenting the products and the opportunity to people. Just try to visualize it. Can you? If not, you may want to keep looking for a wow factor that makes presenting it fun rather than work.

How you present your opportunity and products or services and to whom is a whole different topic that you need to become a student of once you join an opportunity.

Home businesses come and go, but a home business opportunity that has the most powerful unique selling proposition I've ever seen in my 22 years in networking can make all the difference. It saves people substantial money on something they absolutely need every single day and that fact alone will allow you to build a business faster and easier than you ever dreamed possible as you help families in a very dramatic way.

Is a Business Home Internet Marketing MLM Good or Bad?

What’s going on? Landon Stewart here. Lately I have been getting this question sent to my email about business home internet marketing mlm and whether or not it is a scam.

Hey Landon I visited your blog the other day. I signed up for your 7 Day Marketing Challenge and everything sounds really good. I have learned a lot about network marketing through the Challenge especially the last couple of days, but I just don’t think it would work for me.
My friend was in network marketing and he failed horribly. Why would it be any different for me? I mean I think my friend is smarter than I am, yet I expect to succeed in network marketing, when he failed. It just does not make sense to me. I’m not trying to bash what you are doing, I just don’t think that I could do the same.

Please help!

I did mix a couple of different emails together, so that is not just one email from any one specifically, but that is the main concept of a lot of the emails I have been getting lately.

First of all, I would say to this person that your network marketing business is what you make of it.

Like I have said in many of my previous posts; network marketing is not about a product, opportunity, or compensation plan.

Network marketing is about YOU. It’s really that simple.

Yes, you do want to have the best opportunity possible. You want to be able to maximize your profits. That’s just business.

But at the end of the day your success or failure relies on you and you only.

Now this fact scares a lot of people, when frankly it shouldn’t.

Wouldn’t you rather your success depend on you, than on your enemies?

Or wouldn’t you rather your success depend on your, than on your 8 year old kid brother?

Success being on the back of your shoulders is actually a good thing.

It means that if you make the decision to succeed, you will succeed. It’s really that simple.

People try to make network marketing so difficult when really it isn’t.

You just put in the time, and the effort, and everything will work out for you. It just really takes time.

And I know exactly what you are thinking; does your network marketing business opportunity even matter?

Great Question! Click on that link to watch the video of me and my partner to find out right now.

If you like what you read, make sure you share it! Go up to the top and tweet it, then come back down here, and share it with everyone else!

To your dreams becoming reality,

Landon Stewart

Does The Home Based Biz Industry Work? by Lenika Scott

Does The Home Based Biz Industry Work?

You Decide.....

Years and Years of believing not only in myself but also believing if others could achieve a level of success in "The Home Based Business Industry", my thoughts were, so could I. I decided to blog today as proof that you can succeed in this industry. When I think back to a few short months of embarking upon another home based business, I certainly expected to achieve success but never would I have imagined the success would come as rapid as it would. Within a few short months, my family and I was able to "Get Out Of Debt", change our zip code and save for the future, and YES we are being very responsible with our finances we shall continue to save for our future.

I am very thankful for the blessings that have be poured out, even in the midst of a suffering economy. I am grateful to God for allowing me to rise above all of the turbulence that one can experience from getting any business off the ground. So on this day I wanted to share a picture of one of our many material blessings. We have been blessed with 6 beautiful and precious daughters and Lord knows we needed this extra space. The girls are enjoying their new home and so are we (my husband and I).

Again, this is one of the MANY Blessings that this Industry has yielded.

I started this blog with a question. Does The Home Based Biz Industry Works?

You Decide....

Pareto's Principle - The 80-20 Rule

In 1906, Italian economist Vilfredo Pareto created a mathematical formula to describe the unequal distribution of wealth in his country, observing that twenty percent of the people owned eighty percent of the wealth. In the late 1940s, Dr. Joseph M. Juran inaccurately attributed the 80/20 Rule to Pareto, calling it Pareto's Principle. While it may be misnamed, Pareto's Principle or Pareto's Law as it is sometimes called, can be a very effective tool to help you manage effectively.

Where It Came From

After Pareto made his observation and created his formula, many others observed similar phenomena in their own areas of expertise. Quality Management pioneer, Dr. Joseph Juran, working in the US in the 1930s and 40s recognized a universal principle he called the "vital few and trivial many" and reduced it to writing. In an early work, a lack of precision on Juran's part made it appear that he was applying Pareto's observations about economics to a broader body of work. The name Pareto's Principle stuck, probably because it sounded better than Juran's Principle.

As a result, Dr. Juran's observation of the "vital few and trivial many", the principle that 20 percent of something always are responsible for 80 percent of the results, became known as Pareto's Principle or the 80/20 Rule.

What It Means

The 80/20 Rule means that in anything a few (20 percent) are vital and many(80 percent) are trivial. In Pareto's case it meant 20 percent of the people owned 80 percent of the wealth. In Juran's initial work he identified 20 percent of the defects causing 80 percent of the problems. Project Managers know that 20 percent of the work (the first 10 percent and the last 10 percent) consume 80 percent of your time and resources. You can apply the 80/20 Rule to almost anything, from the science of management to the physical world.

You know 20 percent of your stock takes up 80 percent of your warehouse space and that 80 percent of your stock comes from 20 percent of your suppliers. Also 80 percent of your sales will come from 20 percent of your sales staff. 20 percent of your staff will cause 80 percent of your problems, but another 20 percent of your staff will provide 80 percent of your production. It works both ways.

How It Can Help You

The value of the Pareto Principle for a manager is that it reminds you to focus on the 20 percent that matters. Of the things you do during your day, only 20 percent really matter. Those 20 percent produce 80 percent of your results. Identify and focus on those things. When the fire drills of the day begin to sap your time, remind yourself of the 20 percent you need to focus on. If something in the schedule has to slip, if something isn't going to get done, make sure it's not part of that 20 percent.

There is a management theory floating around at the moment that proposes to interpret Pareto's Principle in such a way as to produce what is called Superstar Management. The theory's supporters claim that since 20 percent of your people produce 80 percent of your results you should focus your limited time on managing only that 20 percent, the superstars. The theory is flawed, because it overlooks the fact that 80 percent of your time should be spent doing what is really important. Helping the good become better is a better use of your time than helping the great become terrific. Apply the Pareto Principle to all you do, but use it wisely.

Manage This Issue

How can the Pareto Principle help me in life and business?

- Have a product range? Have a look at how much of your profit comes from each item. Put your effort into the 20% that give you 80% of your sales - your winners.

- Selling products or services? Most likely, 80% of your sales come from 20% of your customers- the ones who make the big purchases and are repeat-buyers. Cherish that 20%.

- Have a sales force? Have a look at how much of your profit comes from each person. Make sure you reward and retain the 20% that are your winners.

- Have an affiliate program? Find the top 5-20% who give you 80% of your income, and make sure you support, encourage and reward your winners.

- Do advertising? Have a look at where the sales come from. Then identify the few ads that really pull, and the few places where you run them that really produce. Then refine your winning ads, and run them in those few places that give you the best results.

- Check your web traffic logs! Which keywords are bringing you the most traffic? Which search engines? Which websites? You'll find that a small number of keywords, search engines and websites give you the lion's share of your traffic. Nurture them, and build on those strengths!

These are only few examples of the use you can make of the Pareto Principle.

Pareto's Principle, the 80/20 Rule, should serve as a daily reminder to focus 80 percent of your time and energy on the 20 percent of you work that is really important. Don't just "work smart", work smart on the right things. F.J.Reh

Leadership

The Study of the Entreprenuer in You!

It is no secret that there is every resource available to ensure your success in any venture you choose to embark upon, there is not one successful person who did not spend time studying any and all materials that gave them the know how to develop and implement a successful business. I've written about "the Successful Mindset" and obtaining that Mindset is a journey you must take, unfortunately we don't all have the pleasure of having a like Warren Buffett or R. Buckminster Fuller to mentor us through the process of developing that Mind, but we all have access to the information and resources to take you exactly where you need to be.

Rich Dad, Poor Dad by Robert Kiyosaki introduced the Y generation to the joys of "Passive Income", Napoleon Hill taught our parents "Think and Grow Rich", and Stephen Covey revealed "Seven Habits of Highly Effective People", even with these and other writings available, you must first "know thyself". Know and recognize your strengths and weakness in learning: leadership, knowledge, implementation, self-motivation, consistency and other critical areas of development. In other words there are many roads to success, there are no shortcuts. Study is one of your keys that unlock the doors to the goals you have in Mind for yourself. I'll be providing your with some of the many titles, ebooks, webinars, links and sampling like the few sited above with a analysis of how the information benefited many like yourself through self study.

THE 5 Pillars of Successful MLM Company

The 5 Pillars of a successful MLM Company
March 27th, 2009 | by Chris |

Finding a good MLM company with the potential to stay in the business for many many years so all your effort and time you invested in the opportunity won’t go wasted but would bring fruits for the years to come, is not an easy task. The would be distributor should examine carefully many things in the multilevel marketing company he is planing to join and to not rush to sign up. Choosing the right network marketing opportunity is very important if you wish to make money with this business model, but what are the things that make a company successful?

Actually, 5 things are very important and can determine the viability and success of a company. The MLM training they give, the compensation plan, the policies and procedures, the timing, and the product, but not necessarily with that order. Opportunities that have these 5 points covered are the real thing and not another scam and can help a lot of distributors become successful and make a lot of money, provided of course that you are willing to do the necessary work.

Five Pillars by Betty Williams

Five Pillars of Network Marketing Businesses

Five pillar information is not for you if you don’t care which business you are in and if it is legal.

Is your CEO wearing black and white stripes!
Is your CEO wearing an orange suit?

You might be missing pillar #1

Company Integrity with Policies and Procedures

In each of these pillars do your due diligence and find out all about the company before you sign the dotted line. Joining a site is signing on the dotted line.

Where is the head office? An empty lot does not count.
Is it a scam? Check in Wikipedia
The Board of Directors cannot spell MLM!
Your sponsor cannot find the policies and procedures
You can Google the address of the company or the owner’s name. You can Google the name/spam or lawsuits and find out about the owner.

Watch for words like “terminate at will”, “sole responsibility” and anywhere that says you are responsible for a bonified list and must monitor them or you can be terminated if cannot show that you are. When you are new; how are you supposed to help someone? Think about it.

In the company name; watch for LLC - Limited Liability Coverage.
They can terminate anyone and take their paycheck. Companies in financial difficulty will do this.

Watch for the company making changes to the policies and procedures and do not have to let you know. That they have the right to change set up of the company.

Companies do dumb things. Most are under-financed and have financial difficulty.

Read anything along those lines and quit and run the other direction.

Pre-launch, Get in Early, Start Now, Don’t miss out!

You might be missing Pillar # 2:

Timing in the Company, Timing in the Industry

There is no hurry to sign up with a company. Do your due diligence and find out about the company. The company must have products to sell or they are not legitimate. A newsletter is not a product.

Check the address of the company and make sure it is in Canada or the United States and not off shore. One company had their address in an empty lot. Do you want to be a part of such a company.

Pre-launch - what they do is play with the date to see how many people will sign up and pay the $’s. If not enough then they will shut down. They will then sell the list of people who signed up to a lead list.

If there is no product or sometimes only one - check on how you pay into the system and how it pays you. Most likely it is a pyramid scheme. You can pass cash back and forth up to $10,000 with no problems. The minute you enroll someone in a business like this it becomes illegal. Get out of the scheme; you will never get your money back from this scheme. If you put it on a credit card within the last three months; you can do a charge back.

If not contact the US Attorney General’s office and under Reg Z you can apply to get your money back with their help.

Think about it; would you like to be the chick who has to cross the road and in Canada it would be Highway #1 and in the States I75 or would you rather cross the road on a quiet, beautiful street.

90% of business fail in the first year and 90% of what left fail in the second year.

If your product is on eBay for less than what you pay…
If your start up package comes in a front loader…
Your product is one you sell only once…

You might be missing Pillar #3

Pillar #3 Products that are wanted every month creating a residual income

You need

• A product people will buy every month
• A remarkable product or you are invisible.
• Focus on people and focus on the market
• Choose a product everyone else wants.
• People are people; they have goals and dreams and desires
• Do you due diligence and check out the company before you sign on the dotted line or click to join.

Worthington, Ohio on the night of November 10, 2008.

There are ways to check out a company. You can go to Google
and do some searches:

• Search the owner’s name/lawsuit
• Search the owner’s name/scam
• Search the CEO’s name/legal action
• Find out if the company cannot do business in all states

Look for big negatives about this company or the owner’s name should come up the search.

The business you want to work in must have a duplicatable system that anyone can follow; a proven step by step system. Don’t join a group or business if they do have such a system.

Pillar # 4

Compensation Plan

If your up-line boast that your Millionaires are prettier as they parade across the floor and you sit in the audience wondering how to buy gas for your old beat up car; you might be missing pillar # 4

If you haven’t seen a paycheck since 2005; you might be missing Pillar # 4

If the $500 briefcase you bought to join the company and you trust this company and only receive a plastic card; you might be missing pillar #4

If your compensation plan is a revolving, pulsating, swirling vortex you might be missing pillar # 4.

Since 98% of people who work a network business work part time; how many active people in the down-line are needed to earn $10,000?

Watch out for the cost of $500 to join, what it costs you to do business. Do you pay for web sites, are you buying leads from your sponsor who owns the lead list and if you bring $500 to the business; what are you paid from this. Where is your profit?

Learn to do the math for the compensation plan. It is simple and easy. Two ways to figure out your paycheck.

Bonuses are a one time payment.
Residual Income is on going and builds your paycheck.

If you buy 100 pts in products and are paid 35% or $35 in income; how many people do
you have to enroll and have active to earn $10,000 per month? The answer is 350.

Before you sign on the dotted line; do the math for the compensation plan and find out what you have to do each month to earn a paycheck. Are you going to be able to retire?

Are you working alone, has your up-line has disappeared, if there is no up to date training, if you are asked to buy leads or go after friends and family…

You might be missing pillar #5

Pillar # 5

Duplicatable Training System for Success

You want to have a proven duplicatable system for you to learn and for you to pass on to your down-line. This should be a training system with lots of people around to help you. It must be a people helping people training system.

There are lost of training programs on line. Some you pay a lot for, some you pay a little and some that are free. You usually have to buy something for the training. Most of the training is not for Network Marketing in today’s world. Mentoring or Free is not only for marketing in today’s world; it is a duplicatable system with people to mentor with and help you to your success.

Greed and Ego

At the bottom of page 11 of Success In 10 Steps, you see a reference to "greed and ego." That gives you another good point to make with your prospect.
Prospects don't come into this process thinking about "greed & ego". But if they have experience in MLM, there's a good chance they've already run into the problem. It's worthwhile pointing out that the greed & ego of sponsors and/or companies is one of the reasons so many prospects are never successful in network marketing.
Let them know how important it is to have their radar up and operating sensitively.
This doesn't mean you search for some Pollyanna who lives their life only for others. Putting yourself first is the natural order.
What it does mean is that you MUST avoid sponsors whose goal is to be successful no matter who they have to step on. You want someone who is determined to be successful by creating those win-win relationships with others.
A lot of times, you can actually hear this in their voice and in what they say about the business and about others. One of these clowns once told me that 95% of all prospects were dead wood, and he just kicked them out of the way. Not only was he proud of it, but he thought anyone who didn't do that was a fool. What more could you possibly need to know about this guy?
So you've got to watch and listen and train yourself to spot "greed & ego" before you join a company where you are smack-dab in the middle of it. Your best bet is definitely to avoid it from the start. Once you are in a group dominated by the greed and/or ego of its leader(s), you are lost. It's a situation you must train yourself to see and walk away from.

Testimony

The Fourth Step toward Riches

Napoleon Hill talks about or Colleges and Universities giving us "General" knowledge and also states that this knowledge is of little use in the accumulation of money.

He mentions that one must specialize on the organization and the use of knowledge and he calls that "Specialized" knowledge.

I would believe that the majority of people who come into "Network Marketing" have an abundance of General knowledge.

But most do not have the specialized knowledge required to be successful in Network Marketing. Mentoring for Free gives them that knowledge with the 10 weekly conference calls which show to prospective network marketer the knowledge to build a network marketing business.

You need to review http://s.mentoringforfree.com It is full of information which can give any person with the desire to succeed in network marketing, the specialized knowledge they all require.

I must thank Michael, Linda, Marcello and Patti for all they have done to get me on the road to success.

Opportunity Knocking!!

Companies come and companies go. So do opportunities in life. How many times do you see your friends quietly slip out of your life when things appear to go south for you? They don't mean to do that sort of thing, they just have an internal fear it might rub off on them. So they slowly do a disappearing act and you are left alone, smack dab in the middle of some of the biggest challenges that life has thrown at you.

Now this happened to a good friend of mine, Richard Dennis. However, he shares his thoughts on "The White Knight of Network Market1ng". To read Richard's story, go to:

Looking for people to support your company?

When you look to find new bus1ness partners in a cold market, you should ONLY ever focus on people actively looking to make money from home. It is a waste of your time to pursue anybody who has not recently demonstrated that desire.

OK.

Let's divide "people who want to make m0ney from home" into 2 categories:

1. Those who have experience in M-L-M.

2. Those who don't.

For a lot of reasons, the "Success In 10 Steps" ebook is targeted to group #1. The book addresses their specific frustrations. This is a group you do not have to explain M-L-M to - they already understand the concept. (And sometimes, the idea of and the reason for seeking "res1dual inc0me" isn't that easy for people to get.)
You could come up with a lot of other reasons, but the bottom line is that group #1 is just a lot more targeted. There are millions of names in that group, and 99% of them want help."Success In 10 Steps" is written for them. When they read it, they identify with Michael's story. It's a great tool for you, because it creates people who want to talk with you to get more details.
To build your own big income in M-L-M, the people you sponsor will need a constant stream of hot pr0spects. I can help you do that for them, and for yourself. For details, call me at 856-873-1595 or hit reply right now and send me your name, phone number, and the best time to call.
To Your Success,

PS: I hope you have the time to print it out and read the eBook, "Success In Ten Steps". Remember, there are only two things in life - reasons and results. The first one doesn't count.
